This volume is the second in a series on the research project GAM—Global Art and the Museum, which was initiated by Hans Belting and Peter Weibel at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. The goal of the project is to analyze the situation in which art museums, the art market, and art criticism find themselves in a globalized world.The Global Art World  comprises a collection of essays presented by experts at two international conferences. The conference focused on the question of how the museum should define itself as an institution in the age of globalization and how old structures can be transformed into new concepts and presentational forms. This is a companion volume to Contemporary Art and the Museum: A Global Perspective, published in 2007.PETER WEIBEL (* 1944, Odessa) is an internationally known media and conceptual artist, curator, and art and media theoretician. Since the 1960s his work has firmly regarded artistic creativity as an open-ended field of activity. He was head of the ZKM, Karlsruhe until 2020. Since 2017 he has been director of the Peter Weibel Research Institute for Digital Culture at the Universität für angewandte Kunst in Vienna.
