In the Feininger family the traditions of the Bauhaus combine uniquely with American themes and motifs: Lyonel Feininger, a native of New York and on the staff of the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau; his son Andreas, architect and photographer, himself a student at the Bauhaus and chronicler of life in New York; T. Lux Feininger who said of himself: "I grew up . . . at the Bauhaus."
