Since the sixties, On Kawara has produced some of the most rigorous work in contemporary art. This study shows the process behind the inception of one of his paintings from the "Today" series and, in an essay by Henning Weidemann, analyzes how this work inhabits the conflictual zone between minimal gesture and global pretension.
