With deep sadness, Hatje Cantz bids farewell to the outstanding photographer Christine Turnauer, who passed away on June 14, 2025.

Christine Turnauer's work focused on capturing moments of absolute presence with sensitivity, empathy, and respect. Her dedication to black-and-white portrait photography and her empathetic portrayal of diverse societies have left an indelible mark on the art world. Her work offers timeless insights into human existence and fosters deeper understanding among people worldwide.

We are very grateful that Hatje Cantz  had the privilege of publishing several of her works, including "Presence" (2014), "The Dignity of the Roma" (2017/2018), and "I saw more than I can tell" (2020). Christine Turnauer will live on through her timeless images.
