Claus Bury (*1946), who has been designing and building great architectural sculptures since 1979, is one of the most internationally renowned German sculptors alive today.Including essays by well-known authors, this book is devoted to Bury’s most recent works. For the first time, the artist’s sketches and journals—such as those detailing his travels in Yucatan, Mexico, in early 2006—will be published along with impressive black-and-white photographs of Mayan temples. Various aspects of Bury’s public sculptures are examined, especially boats and ships, a subject at the core of his work. The creation of Bury’s largest project to date, the Bitterfelder Bogen (Bitterfeld Arch), which opened in August 2006, is carefully documented.
