With this publication, the newly founded BRUSEUM at the Neue Galerie Graz is showcasing the international importance of Viennese action artist Günter Brus (*1938 in Styria) based on works from his various creative areas and periods. The book sheds light on the complexity of his oeuvre, as it features some previously unpublished photographic and film documentation of actions that took place between 1964 and 1970, such as Wiener Spaziergang (Walk through Vienna, 1965) and Zerreissprobe (Acid Test, 1970), which illuminate the artist’s international status as an important representative of Body Art. The inventory catalogue spans a period from the seventies to the present, including the “image-poetry,” a combination of text and image that Brus declared a genre of its own, as well as drawings and prints. Exhibition schedule: Neue Galerie, Graz, November 27, 2011–September 2, 2012PETER WEIBEL (* 1944, Odessa) is an internationally known media and conceptual artist, curator, and art and media theoretician.
