In 2010 the Ars Electronica Festival for Art, Technology, and Society is on the hunt for solutions to our problems, and has turned to the innovators of our time. To highly knowledgeable, expert visionaries, who are working on alternative futures with their enormous creativity and idealism. Repair is the name of the festival, which has affiliated itself with these pioneers, and recommending that we all do the same—for the time to issue warnings is past, and we are already in the midst of it all: in the climate crisis, the surveillance society, the bankruptcy of the financial sector . . . is it too late to save ourselves?We are past the point of no return, and the dramatic effects are obvious. Our lethargy, therefore, is inexplicable, especially since the ideas, tools, and technologies for change are at hand. We simply have to act. Roll up our shirtsleeves and tackle the job before us, go where there are no paths to guide us. We have to change ourselves and start the repairs. Repair—rethink—reinvent.
