Thomas Rentmeister's sculptural work occupies an individual position in contemporary art. This book presents the first comprehensive overview of all of his work to date.

The spectrum of Thomas Rentmeister's oeuvre ranges from smoothly polished polyester sculptures that draw and reflect light to floor sculptures made of chocolate-nut sandwich spread and block-like refrigerator architectures whose outer surfaces are coated with baby cream. Rentmeister's sculptures present provocatively tactile surfaces which, despite their allusions to Minimal Art, are imbued with powerful physical presence. Designed in close collaboration with the artist, this book is the first publication devoted to Rentmeister's unique sculptural oeuvre from the early 1980s to the present. The artist: Thomas Rentmeister, born in 1964 in Reken, Westphalia. 1987-93 studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Günther Uecker and Alfonso Hüppi; master student of Alfonso Hüppi. 2002 Piepenbrock Prize for Young Sculptors. 2002-04 guest professor at the Universität der Künste, Berlin. Numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at the Städtisches Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach (1995), the Kölnischer Kunstverein (2001), and Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum of the Present, Berlin (2002). Exhibition schedule: Kunsthalle Nürnberg, July 22-September 26, 2004 · Museum zu Allerheiligen/Kunstverein Schaffhausen, May 29-August 7, 2005
