The work of Dutch painter Steven Aalders is known for his strictly geometric oil paintings of colored surfaces. They can be linked to Abstraction in the 20th century and consistently bring ideas of Constructivism or De Stijl as well as Minimal Art and color field painting into the present. At the same time, Aalders’ paintings touch on classical pictorial traditions: timeless themes of time and place, proportion and color form the main ideas of his picture series. The title of the volume, Seasons, refers to the cycle of paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. from the 16th century. This book is published on the occasion of an exhibition of the same name in the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. STEVEN AALDERS (b. 1959) is one of the leading Dutch abstract painters of his generation. Numerous solo exhibitions have been on show at, for instance, SMAK in Ghent (2001) and the Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag (2010). Aalders lives and works in Amsterdam.Steven Aalders.
