Spencer Ostrander
These figures from the publication Times Square were photographed by Spencer Ostrander just as it began to rain at the New York landmark. Luminous abstract reflections from surrounding billboards transform the subjects’ raincoats into vivid surfaces imbued with notions of status, happiness and the good life. Connected by cheerful colors, intense light and an artful pause in front of Ostrander's camera, the motifs become symbolic of individuals lost in the loneliness of the masses.
SPENCER OSTRANDER (*1984, Seattle) has lived in New York City for the past two decades. He has done extensive work in all forms of photography and has recently completed two other book projects: Bloodbath Nation, with a long text on American gun violence by Paul Auster and Long Live King Kobe.
