Sensual Ceramics

Nina Malterud’s first monograph presents the extensive and unique oeuvre of the Norwegian ceramic artist. Inspired by functional objects such as plates, bowls or cups, her sculptures further reveal signs of abstraction. In part, her compositions are reminiscent of coral or root structures. Her artistic signature is characterized by the exposition of the craft process inscribed in the ceramics. What the works have in common is the play between strength and vulnerability, which can also be traced back to the material. The book is published on the occasion of Malterud’s extensive exhibition at KODE – Art Museums and Composer Homes in Bergen.

NINA MALTERUD (*1951) is an artist. She studied at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo and works in Bergen, where she holds a professorship at the Institute of Ceramics of the National Academy of the Arts. Her sculptures are in collections of numerous Norwegian art museums.
