Nedko Solakov
Nedko Solakov (*1957 in Cherven Briag, Bulgaria), participated in the 2007 Venice Biennial and the documenta 12 and represents a central position in European art. In many ways his works break through boundaries: working in diverse media, using found materials, drawing, painting, scribbling on walls, or in videos, Solakov counteracts principles of order and rules and deliberately includes the process of decay in his works.
Solakov’s Collector’s Edition, Knight’s Graffiti, is closely linked to his multilayered installation made for the dOCUMENTA (13), Knights (and other dreams), displayed in the entire ground floor of the Brüder Grimm-Museum Kassel. The ink and sepia drawings with text featuring, the trademark tiny, blobby alter egos combine skilled draftsmanship and knowledge of art history with playful irony, an emphasis on the absurd, and a subversive sense of humor. The Collector's Edition consists of 14 different motifs drawn on a fine art premium print model. The artist adds a »graffiti« text to each print, thus making all of them unique pieces of art.
