When at the beginning of the sixties Lucio Fontana's perforated and slit canvases became well known beyond Italy, he was celebrated as a great innovator of postwar European art: At the time of Fluxus, Kinetic and Neodadaism, his "Concetti spazial" seemed above all to be radical gestures of destruction of panel painting. Since then, not only has the significance of the "Concetti spazial" been recognised, but also the early figurative works such as the "baroque" bronzes and ceramics, the light sculptures and interior installations have been rediscovered. "Lucio Fontana - Retrospective", the first extensive German publication for some time, takes this new view into account. Central works of all the creative periods and genres are documented here in detail. This profusely illustrated book shows a monographic survey and at the same time Lucio Fontana's importance for the art of the nineties.
