This book is published on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Parliament Building by Günter Behnisch, and to mark the sponsoring of the International Congress Centre Bundeshaus Bonn (IKBB) by the city of Bonn. The restructuring of the city of Bonn has numerous aspects and affects several institutions: As the result of the functional change regarding individual buildings as well as the entire region, a new forum for economy and science is created which is intended for interdisciplinary co-operation. Also part of it are the communication and media centre as well as the integration of architecture and culture. Special emphasis is on the organisation of conferences significant for world politics. In this structural change, architecture plays a major role as a basis of a newly developing urban living and working area. Buildings by internationally renowned architects such as Günter Behnisch, Egon Eiermann, Helmut Jahn, Joachim Schürmann and Hans Schwippert present an exciting cross-section covering more than half a century of German post-war history. In a comprehensive photo-documentation on this theme, photographers Ikhlas Abbis and David Boucherie render visible moments of architecture being experienced with the human being as the focus point. Contributions by authors from politics, the business world, the cultural scene, as well as from research and educational institutions, open up perspectives on Bonn's new international role and the challenges it presents.
