The American artist Keith Sonnier employed colored neon light in his works as an artistic medium as early as 1968. In the eighties, he began using this unusual material in a number of public commissions, some of them outdoor installations. The range of his indoor and outdoor installations of colored neon light includes smaller projects - an installation for the Palladium Theatre in New York (Dot Dash, 1985) or for a collectors´ couple from New Jersey (Route One, 1987) - as well as large-scale architecture in the nineties. This book in the Werkdokumente Series features all of Keith Sonnier´s larger works commissioned between 1990 and 1999 and realized in the U.S. and in Europe, among them the permanent light installations for the Munich airport (Lichtweg [Lightway], 1989-1992) and Miami (Miami Heliotrope, 1996), and the Ronald Reagan and International Trade Center in Washington (Route Zenith, 1997).
