Book presentation with Jochen Raiß and Christian Gargerle
Kunst-Buch Kollwitzplatz
Wörther Str. 17/18
10405 Berlin

With his collection of amateur photographs showing women on trees Jochen Raiß already fascinated thousands of people. Now he is unveiling another surprising series from his collection of historical photographs: Polar Bears. His flea market finds show polar bears posing with holidaymakers in the beach chair, in the pub, at the fair, polar bears arm in arm with small children, men, women. What are these curious pictures? Who is hiding in a polar bear costume and how did this photo trend come about at the beginning of the 20th century?

In a conversation with Christian Gargerle, Jochen Raiß explores these questions and talks about his decades-long search for historical amateur photographs, the stories behind his fascinating finds, and the appeal of the polar bear.

We cordially invite you to the book presentation.
