Gregor Schneider
Gregor Schneider (*1969 in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt) lives and works in Mönchengladbach.
1989-1992: studies at the art academies in Düsseldorf, Münster, and Hamburg; 1985: Groundbreaking for the Haus ur project in Rheydt, a conventional apartment building the artist has progressively transformed into an eerie, claustrophobic, labyrinthine structure.
The winner of the Golden Lion Award at the 2001 Venice Biennial, Gregor Schneider has earned a reputation as an outstanding artist—and as the creator of an utterly baffling oeuvre. In Venice, he transplanted elements from his Haus ur in Rheydt to the German pavilion. The step over the threshold, the view behind the magnificent stage-set of the portal led viewers into the depths, indeed the abyss of the inner self.
Gregor Schneider documented his contribution to the Venice show in photographs. The motif for the Collector’s Edition was selected from this series of photos by the “uncanniest artist of our time.” (Süddeutsche Zeitung).
Collector's Editions will be shipped upon receipt of payment (including postage and handling) or credit card authorization.
