In the last two years, artistic output in Germany has been as prolific and multiform as was last seen in the early eighties. Inspired by the highly unconventional "Young British Art", stimulated by the dynamics and attraction of Berlin and by a multitude of exhibitions seeking to unify these fresh young postures and making them visible, a highly energizing art scene emerged, injecting the fin-de-siècle art market with new life. The publication at hand captures this very energy - something that is felt everywhere - by giving a broad overview over more than 30 contemporary artists. Put forth with passion, their ideas cover all areas of the Fine Arts spectrum and can no longer be looked upon as individualist gestures but must be placed in a group context. In this, autobiography and actionism, art immanent problems, socio-political discourse and scientific experiments have taken on equal importance and no longer exclude each other. The selection has been made in accordance with the artists' current focus of life in Germany - regardless of their nationality. Selected artists: Franz Ackermann, Kai Althoff, Simone Böhm, Cosima von Bonin, Olafur Eliasson, Stefan Hoderlein, Maix Mayer, Michel Majerus, Tobias Rehberger, Daniel Richter, Tilo Schulz, Heidi Specker, Johannes Wohnseifer, Joseph Zehrer, and others
