Georg Baselitz

Druckgraphik 1964–1983

Georg Baselitz (*1938 in Deutschbaselitz, Germany, as Hans-Georg Kern) lives and works in Ammersee.

1956: began studying painting at the Hochschule für Bildende und Angewandte Kunst in East Berlin. 1957–1962: continued his studies at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in West Berlin.

1992–present: teaches at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste, Berlin. Large exhibitions worldwide, including a 1995 retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. Numerous prizes and awards, such as the 1986 Kaiserring from the City ofGoslar and the 2004 Praemium Imperiale, the highest award for contemporary art in the world.

Georg Baselitz discovered the print medium early on, producing his first etchings in 1964. From then on he experimented with very different techniques, such as dry-point, aquatint, and then later with wood- and linocuts. In the process he explored the specific requirements of these artistic forms of expression, developing his own unique works on paper.

Our Collector’s Edition is from the Remix series, in which Baselitz presents programmatic paintings of his work in completely new interpretations, taking up an exciting dialogue with his own work—an experiment that is as unusual as it is spectacular.
