Franz Ackermann (*1963) is one of the most famous German artists of his generation. Travel is of fundamental importance to his work. While still on site, Ackermann fixes his personal perceptions in “mental maps.” These imaginary maps of city and countryside are later turned into large-format paintings in his studio. He continues developing his ideas in installations made up of various media such as drawing, painting, photography, film, objects, text, and sculptural inserts. At the heart of this monograph are two large installations: Home, home again and 23 Gespenster (23 Ghosts). Both works make use of local, historical, and political references, which are transformed into universal experiences. Exhibition schedule: kestnergesellschaft, Hanover, November 24, 2006–January 28, 2007 · DA2.Domus Artium 2002, Salamanca, May 1–July 31, 2007
