The Davos Journal is the most important and most often quoted reference on Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's life and work. This journal, which was kept at irregular intervals from 1919 to 1928, is published in this edition unabridged for the first time in the format of the manuscripts. The reproductions show the original pages with Kirchner's numerously inserted sketches and drawings. This edition is supplemented with other text sources, Kirchner's writings and his correspondence. The detailed index provides information about biographical details with notes on all the persons, events and works mentioned in the journal. Together with the photos from his life, this publication is turning into an extensive and ambitiously rendered portrayal of Kirchner's personality. This document on the most prominent representaive of German Expressionism is concomittantly also in form and presentation an attractive publication for the lover of fine art books. The Davos Journal was edited for the first time by Lothar Grisebach in 1968, and this new edition was supervised by his son Lucius Grisebach, director of the Kunsthalle Nürnberg, who has already published a number of books on Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and the "Brücke".
