Röder thus documented the riots of Genoa in 2001, where over 300,000 people took to the streets and a demonstrator was shot by police. The connection between power and economics is the central theme of the photographer’s work. What oc\u0026shy;curs when the market system—driven by the princi\u0026shy;ples of generating growth and demand—begins to operate on its own accord? Röder’s series are defined by a clear visual language, and his works build upon each other in terms of content. He consciously em\u0026shy;ploys compositions that recall battle scenes in histor\u0026shy;ical paintings or have the visual pull advertising as a means of distinguishing his work within the everyday flood of images that we encounter.
