The color photographs have faded over time, and the patina points towards a distant past. Yet the artist uses these documents without a sense of nostalgia. He digitally blocks out details or lends them greater sharpness. He plays with colors, forms, light, and shadow regardless of what is depicted. In this way, images of an ascent to a summit or people taking a break are transformed into abstract paintings: the outlines of people in the foreground dissolve, and the alpine world in the background becomes razor sharp.
