As early as 1961–62, the artist’s works summarized or anticipated major contemporary trends in art based on employing everyday materials in the tradition of the ready-made: assemblage; montage; the serial stringing together of commonplace objects such as corks, coins, and wrappers; the purism of the Zero movement; echoes of Nouveau Réalisme; and Pop Art.
