Dutch documentary photographer Martin Roemers (*1962) decided to track down the remains of this period. For over ten years he repeatedly traveled through formerly hostile countries on both sides of the line: through eastern and western \u003cST1:COUNTRY-REGION w:st=\"on\"\u003eGermany\u003c\/ST1:COUNTRY-REGION\u003e, \u003cST1:COUNTRY-REGION w:st=\"on\"\u003eEngland\u003c\/ST1:COUNTRY-REGION\u003e, \u003cST1:COUNTRY-REGION w:st=\"on\"\u003eBelgium\u003c\/ST1:COUNTRY-REGION\u003e, the \u003cST1:COUNTRY-REGION w:st=\"on\"\u003eNetherlands\u003c\/ST1:COUNTRY-REGION\u003e, \u003cST1:COUNTRY-REGION w:st=\"on\"\u003ePoland\u003c\/ST1:COUNTRY-REGION\u003e, \u003cST1:PLACE w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003cST1:COUNTRY-REGION w:st=\"on\"\u003eUkraine\u003c\/ST1:COUNTRY-REGION\u003e \u003c\/ST1:PLACE\u003e, and other former East Bloc nations. He descended into underground tunnels; photographed abandoned control centers, old barracks, wrecked tanks, and ruined statues.
