His father, Giovanni Giacometti, was one of the leading Swiss Post-Impressionists and perhaps Alberto’s only real teacher. After Alberto’s death, Diego became well-known for his furniture and sculptures. His brother Bruno was a renowned architect. Alberto Giacometti’s mother, Annetta, his wife, Annette, and Silvio Berthoud, son of his sister Ottilia (who died in childbirth), were all favorite models of his and therefore central to the development of the sculptor’s career.
