This catalog presents works from the Gundlach collection selected by Zdenek Felix, Director of the Deichtorhallen for many years. Fifty-six artists are represented with a large number of works focused primarily on the human image. In addition to photos by Erwin Blumenfeld, Irving Penn, Robert Frank, Harry Callahan, Lisette Model, and Otto Steinert, the book also features works by lesser-known artists. Special emphasis is given to photographers from Eastern Europe, among them Josef Koudelka, Antanas Sutkus, and Evgenij Mochorev. Another section is devoted to works by such visual artists as Cindy Sherman, Fischli\/Weiss, Günther Förg, Jenny Holzer, and Wolfgang Tillmans, who have worked either predominantly or selectively in the medium of photography.
