14759-erich-wonder
Erich Wonder

Since 1975 the stage designer Erich Wonder with his visionary stages has had a unique influence on the European theatre scene between Frankfurt and Zurich, Paris and Milan, Berlin and Salzburg. Inspired by great highlight painters like Vermeer van Delft and Marc Rothko, as well as by cinema, he began to revolutionize stage scenery and stage lighting. At first he created pathbreaking designs for theatre plays. Today he works mainly for opera, and has played a decisive role in its renewal. His work for Tristan in Bayreuth in 1994 contributed considerably to the immense fame achieved by this production. This documentation is being published on the occasion of the Bayreuth Festival, for whose Ring 2000 Erich Wonder has designed the scenery. With more than 250 illustrations, the book traces his artistic development, focusing on his work with prominent directors. Detailed descriptions of the formation of theatre productions give an insight into his creative work. Colleagues, critics, and the artist himself add their own voices. Wonders independent works are also presented, such as those for the documenta in Kassel and the Ars Electronica in Linz. Examples of wonders paintings complete this very sensuous and lively documentation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775709675_5bcb15bc-eb3c-4316-b3ac-19c3287da293.jpg?v=1744060378
