His most spectacular project is Roden Crater in the Painted Desert in Arizona, which he acquired in the seventies. Simple architectural interventions - a network of chambers and passages has been embedded in the body of the vulcano for over twenty years - create the feeling of a sky devoid of limits, a dome arching over the earth, a phenomenon which Turrell calls the other horizon. For the eclipse of the sun on 11th August 1999, Turrell conceived two perceptual spaces in the extreme south-west of Cornwall: a Skyspace with the title The Elliptic Ecliptic, which he constructed on a slope opposite St. Michael\u0026#39;s Mount, and the Shallow Space Construction in Newlyn Art Gallery, which he named Arcus. Photos by James Turrell document the artist\u0026#39;s most recent work. The book is accompanied by a CD specially recorded for this project with compositions by Paul Schütze.
