The first painting undoubtedly must have been that of a child. With many artists, the childish preoccupation with smearing finds its continuation as a sensual play with pigment in its haptic quality. Color is not only seen but also felt and touched. With some forms of art, this revelling in (and with) pigment even constitutes its special appeal. Ca-ca poo-poo - the rather provocative title refers to a child's expression for faeces in American English - endeavours to trace this phenomenon with works by internationally renowned artists as well as young artists still awaiting discovery, such as Angela Bulloch, Tracey Emin, Mike Kelley, Fabian Marcaccio, Paul McCarthy, Mark Millof, Carl Ostendarp, Steven Parrino, Christian Sery, Lauren Szold, Tony Tasset, Martin Walde, and Franz West.
