On this DVD in NTSC and PAL mode, art expert and philosopher Boris Groys has assembled video sequences on the topic of the “semantic gap.” The theme of these recordings is the video as medium: the use of the image in video, the analogy between video and essay, the difference between the private and public use of videos, and the “endless loop” as a contemporary form of the ritual.
The film material here is not used as simple illustration in order to make the text more comprehensible or to clarify certain theoretical positions in a better way. On the contrary: the Video Lectures examine the topic of the gap between what we hear and what we see, and they show us the relationship between image and word existing in our media-driven world.
