Bettina Lockemann: Contact Zones is being released in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Württembergischer Kunstverein in Stuttgart.Lockemann’s works stand out due to the unspectacular gesture they make within the world of contemporary photography. The superior quality of the images, their contextual complexity, and their precise conception attest to the way the artist reflects on the aesthetic and theoretical parameters of photography.Lockemann explores a number of social issues in her extensive series. She shifts attention to urban situations, constructs of globalization and the Other, politically defined spaces, or scenarios involving control and surveillance. As always, her primary pursuit is the investigation of the relationship between image and reality.
