In 1994, the Swiss photographer Beat Streuli installed his video camera at an intersection of Fifth Avenue South, New York and - unnoticed by the people passing by - photographed the life of the street. Fragmented scenes, micro-events which resulted from the coincidental encounters among the people rushing by emerged with the teleoptic. This large format catalogue which accompanies an interior installation at the Württembergischer Kunstverein with slides of the artist, who was born in 1957, shows some of these scenes in frieze-like arranged video stills and double-paged illustrations of photographs taken in various large cities in the United States in 1994/95. By dint of sunlight and varied depths of field, the protagonists stand out in relief before the blurry background of the street scenes - dreamy moments in American daily life.
