Internationally renowned artists worked with the BMW group's corporate identity using both photography and film.

AutoWerke II was conceived as a commissioned photographic project. Two German curators invited ten European artists of international renown to create new, original contributions to the topic "automobile" using film or photography. The project was commissioned by the BMW Bank Munich, and it was made possible to a large degree by the fact that the enterprise BMW opened its gates to the artists. Its outcome consists of highly individual works offering a cross section of contemporary photography, powerful and many-faceted as artistic visions and ranging from Thomas Demand´s abstracting spatial aesthetics to the concrete critical approach of Ursula Rogg. The works present fascinating insights into a whole range of different contexts related to the (dream) object automobile. They show the people who create the automobiles, the production sites and, again and again, the mobility gained in its various cultural and aesthetic dimensions: state-of-the-art photography about new topics. Exhibition Schedule: Deichtorhallen Hamburg November, 2000 - February, 2001 The artists: Heike Baranowsky, Thomas Demand, Rineke Dijkstra, Nina Fischer & Maroan el Sani, Candida Höfer, Boris Michailov, Ursula Rogg, Thomas Struth, Alexander Timtschenko
