Monograph examining Alois Mosbacher’s paintings and installations

Alois Mosbacher (*1954 in Strallegg, Austria), a representative of the Neue Malerei, or New Painting, movement of the eighties, works primarily as a painter and is committed to the tradition of expressive representationalism. In terms of form, this is articulated in an intriguing relationship between painting and graphic art. Mosbacher’s recent pictures make more use of photography and mass media than did his paintings from the eighties, which involved a personal mythology. The artist has also always worked with sculpture and installations. At the core of his considerations is the human being in relationship to the space he inhabits, nature, of which he is a part.

This publication presents both the highlights of Mosbacher’s long career, assembled from international collections, as well as his new works, which include both installations and performative pieces.

Exhibition schedule: Neue Galerie Graz, June 11–August 15, 2010
