The works of Ays e Erkmen (*1949), Ceal Floyer (*1968), and David Lamelas (*1946) all make use of a scaled-down formal grammar. Their individual ways of dealing with time and space and the question as to the limitations of—as well as the prospects of creating—alternative communicative and cognitive processes make up the foundation of this joint publication. It provides a compact survey of the previous creative work done by the three artists, at the same time making reference to new works created specifically for the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Basel.Erkmen’s installations work with various interpretations of socially and historically implicit architecture, while Floyer’s light projections, videos, photographs, and sculptures are characterized by the absence of underlying themes. Lamelas is a pioneer of a certain kind of Conceptual Art—as early as in the late sixties, he was already creating important works that explored the hybrid character of the exhibition venue. Exhibition schedule: Kunstmuseum Basel, Museum für Gegenwartskunst, June 1–October 12, 2008
