| Installations, objects, and performances of the German choreographer

Sasha Waltz is a pioneer of the so-called »turn to the installation«. She is expanding the field of the installation to include actions and people. Dance becomes installation and installation becomes action. In the exhibition space, the visitor himself moves “on stage,” he is part of the events taking place and has the power to determine his relation to an event or object. The formats between performance and exhibition are in transition. This is the new sign of Sasha Waltz’s art.An exhibition at the ZKM | Karlsruhe presents the artist’s new position. Huge installations form its center, which is supplemented by many smaller installations and objects, documents and archival materials that have never been shown before, and an extensive program of performances, with music by the composers Jonathan Bepler, Pascal Dusapin, Hans Peter Kuhn, Henry Purcell, and Franz Schubert.PETER WEIBEL (* 1944, Odessa) is an internationally known media and conceptual artist, curator, and art and media theoretician. Since the 1960s his work has firmly regarded artistic creativity as an open-ended field of activity. He was head of the ZKM, Karlsruhe until 2020. Since 2017 he has been director of the Peter Weibel Research Institute for Digital Culture at the Universität für angewandte Kunst in Vienna.
