Peter Weibel's highly original art work developed out of his interest in the theory of language and in the construction of reality.

This book is the first extensive publication devoted to the early work of the internationally acclaimed Media and Conceptual artist Peter Weibel during the period from 1964 to 1979. Weibel started out in 1964 as a visual poet and was soon transferring the structures of the visual culture from the page to the screen, at the same time retaining the model of language as a model of perception in the sense of structuralist and post-structuralist methods. This specific development anticipated many of the trends that were later to be described as Conceptual Art, Context Art, institutional criticism, and intervention. In 1966 his work had already applied the participatory and interactive practices that led to the first interactive computer installations at the beginning of the 1990s. Featuring articles by renowned authors as well as short texts, manifestos, and leaflets written by Peter Weibel himself, this book provides an instructive and comprehensive contribution to research on the work of this influential artist.
