| Geometry with references to architecture

London-based artist Lothar Götz (*1963 in Günzburg, Germany) creates murals based on geometrical source materials, with an emphasis on architectural references and concepts of space. The starting points for his works are buildings, empty spaces, and architectural sites, to which he responds with keen intuition. Beginning with the given conditions of a space, he sees both the historical contexts and the modern, functionally determined concept of architecture as a formal challenge. Unique spatial characteristics and architectural constructions are recorded, while their geometrical principles are reinforced by means of intense coloration.Götz’s drawings are an important resource for his murals. Even though they are independent works, many of them are still used as preliminary sketches for later spatial elaborations. Exhibition schedule: Galerie der Stadt Remscheid, March 27–May 29, 2011 | Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven June 4–August 21, 2011 | Followed by Kunsthalle Göppingen | Dundee Contemporary Arts
