| Retrospective monograph on Julião Sarmento’s complete body of work

Julião Sarmento (*1948 in Lisbon) is one of the most eminent Portuguese artists of his generation. He began presenting films, videos, sound art, paintings, sculptures, installations, as well as multimedia art in the seventies, and he has also developed several significant site-specific projects. Sarmento has exhibited his work extensively, both nationally and internationally. This book features works from the late sixties to the present. Richly illustrated with all the works on display, it also includes a project developed by the artist in collaboration with writer James Salter specifically for the publication. It features succinct articles on selected works by art critics, artists and curators; a conversation between Sarmento and James Lingwood; and an essay by João Fernandes, director of the museum and curator of the exhibition. (Portugese edition ISBN 978-3-7757-3530-8)  Exhibition schedule: Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, November 23, 2012–February 24, 2013Lawrence Weiner (*1942 in the Bronx, New York) studied literature and philosophy at Hunter College in New York. After an intensive study of the traditional arts of painting and sculpture, he developed his own approach to art, using language, in the late 1960s. His work has been seen in countless solo shows and large, important international exhibitions. Recently, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; K21, Düsseldorf; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, produced a retrospective of his work titled AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE (2007/08). Weiner's work has been shown at the documenta 5 (1972), 6 (1977), and 7 (1982), and will also be seen in 2012 at the dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel. The artist lives in New York and Amsterdam.
