The word “Click” is a simple word, but to Chatchai Boonyaprapatsara, it means the scene of City, Citizen, Culture, Context, Conflict, Colour and Concept meeting up in one “Click” coincidentally on the street.
His series “Click: The Coincidence” is a collection of 5 years experiences of the unpredictable city’s scenes (Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore). In geometry, two vectors can be said to be coincident when they point in the same direction, regardless of their magnitudes.
The multi-dimensions of ad images and messages from marketers led Chatchai Boonyaprapatsara to turn his back on the marketingindustry, in which he worked for over ten years. Such imagery is to be found almost everywhere, spreading in a disease-like manner, especially in Bangkok.
In this documentary the photographer follows a search for a mystical communication link between the subjects, where and when they lie upon each other. The photos reveal a fragmented society, an explosion of many bizarre incidents. When he feels and sees the continuous dialog between his main subject and the culture and ambient of our modern society in the background, it is a worthwhile coincidence. Boonyaprapatsara’s photographs reveal invisible relationships between locations, ‘things’ and context.
