What good, however, are even the most beautiful books, when they do not reach their readers? This does not happen with Hatje Cantz books, even with most of our English-language titles. They are sold all around the world and presented regularly at the most important international books fairs in Frankfurt, Leipzig, London, New York, and Beijing.
Furthermore, Hatje Cantz maintains stands at international art fairs, among them Art Basel and the Karlsruhe Art Fair. For Marketing and Sales Director Martin Wichert and his staff of ten in sales, marketing, advertising, and PR, nothing is too much. Guided by the maxim, “information is everything,” the team writes publicity blurbs, devises selling points, puts together advertisements, and compiles illustrative material long before the books are published.
Twice a year, we print extensive German- and English-language catalogues, and we also send out distribution information twice a month. Months before the books appear, we are busy distributing press materials, updating our website daily, Twittering, and posting news on Facebook. Newsletters are sent out, and we encourage our customers’ enthusiasm for art with exhibition tours, readings, posters, gift bags, postcards, or sweepstakes.
Over 2,000 newspaper editors have access to our press conferences, news, and individual information about every one of our titles; since more than 3,000 reports about our projects appear in the media every year, it is clear that our national and international PR employees are highly successful.
