At first, one might take it for granted that books are always (almost) perfect. However, this could simply remain a devout wish without the work of our editing staff, under the adept leadership of our long-time managing editor, Ute Barba. When project editors and authors have finished their texts and entrust their manuscripts to us, then our work here really begins.
From fact-checking to coordinating translations, from German and foreign-language editing to copyright clearance — our ten-person editing staff organizes the many steps involved in producing a book, from the submissions to the printer.
For every project, one editor is assigned to coordinate the authors, translators, graphic designers, and client contacts. Frequently, museums in cities such as New York, Vienna, or Paris will collaborate on an exhibition, and producing the accompanying multi-language catalogues, in cooperation with various equal partners, is a true challenge, which spurs our editors to do their best and continually master every little detail.
Our foreign-language editions are produced in close cooperation with experienced native speakers. The main focus here is on English publications, which our American colleague in the Berlin office, Tas Skorupa, oversees with great care.
