Our top priority is to have the catalogue printed in time for an exhibition’s press preview. This is not always easy, since, despite the best of planning, there are often additions to the texts, and deadlines are postponed; at the same time, of course, the project may not go over budget, and the entire production must also meet our high standards of quality.
This type of small miracle can only be realized through extraordinary professionalism, outstanding management, and the greatest possible equanimity. The tasks of budget and schedule planning, quality control, and coordinating clients, graphic designers, lithographers, typesetters, printers, bookbinders, and delivery services are the responsibility of our experienced production manager, Maren Katrin Poppe, and her staff of skilled employees. Rounding off the team are two in-house graphic designers and a series of freelance designers, who fulfill the demanding tasks of design and layout.
Each one of Hatje Cantz’s publications is always overseen by employees from both the editing and production departments. This kind of care and quality is worth the effort many times over. Year after year our books are awarded famous book prizes; many become desirable collector’s items and fetch high prices through book dealers.
