More Than Just Correcting Texts: Editing

Product Management
"Spitzweg’s image of the editor as a marathon reader sitting in the silence of his lonely room was never accurate."
Neue Zürcher Zeitung

The responsibilities of an editor are expanding increasingly and shifting away from pure text editing to comprehensive product management. Hatje Cantz Publishers currently employs eight full-time editors for German- and English-language projects who act as advisors in every phase of book production. We also work with a team of experienced translators and a number of adjunct editors for German- and foreign-language projects.

We work closely with clients to develop concepts for designing the most attractive and “reader-friendly” publications possible. Extensive consultation during the planning phase helps avoid unnecessary costs.

Text Editing

"Language is the dress of thought."
Samuel Johnsson

Classical text editing remains the focal point of our work. Editors are the first and most attentive readers of any publication. The editor offer an author a helpful "second opinion" without imposing restrictions on his own individual style. Editors also ensure standardization of formal aspects as well as project-specific research assistance. Suggested changes are highlighted in text files so that the editor’s work remains transparent and comprehensible for everyone involved.
