As German documentary photography was quite a productive field in the nineties, this publication endeavors to present some of its important work series: from a study about the peace process in Bosnia to a project about ethnic Germans from Kazachstan relocating in Brandenburg to one about prostitutes wrecked by drug use. An unusual series of panoramic photograpy shows the massive structures of a new China beyond all picturesque clichés. For the photographers, the use of color is a matter of course, all of them work in their own laboratory. The result is a complex and well-reflected photography, some of it published in the magazines of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" or "Die Zeit", shown in exhibitions and highly praised - a kind of photography that is quite subjective, its imagery sometimes eccentric and wholly unsentimental. In his texts, the essayist and critic Ulf Erdmann Ziegler shares his expert opinion about this aspect of the history of the media at the close of the 20th century.
