| Projects situated somewhere between architecture and the performing arts in public space
West Berlin has changed a great deal since the fall of the Wall and the developments in the period after reunification; once lively places have faded into obscurity. OPER DYNAMO WEST seeks out the voids and incorporates their original functions and urban space and its inhabitants into its musical theater performances. The artists’ collective does not work on stages, but in public places: projects situated somewhere between architecture and the performing arts blend with music, text, and space. Its arenas are the Bahnhof Zoo and Kurfürstendamm, the Europa Center, or the abandoned Schillertheater. Photographs of their performances are supplemented by essays on urban development, music, architecture, and theater that examine the projects’ central questions: How can urban structures be influenced or undermined? What is a backdrop, and what is reality? What is fiction, and what is documentation?
