Number Two: Fragile documents the second exhibition of works from the Julia Stoschek Collection. The principal theme is the aspect of corporeality in videos, installations, and photography, with which primarily artists from the areas of body and performance art have experimented since the sixties and seventies. Their main focus is on self-staging, pain, transformation, physicality in the sense of a plasticity that can be experienced as a real, exterior form, but also fragility in a literal sense.

With a selection of fifty-four works by thirty internationally renowned artists from Julia Stoschek’s high-quality collection—including Marina Abramovic, Vito Acconci, Chris Burden, Janet Cardiff and Georges Bures Miller, Nathalie Djurberg, Terence Koh, Bruce Nauman, Pipilotti Rist, Mika Rottenberg, Katharina Sieverding, and Rosemarie Trockel—as well as an enlightening essay by Elisabeth Bronfen, the volume represents an instructive contribution to a central artistic theme of the past fifty years.
