Art&Idea supports international and innovative crossover art projects. The non-profit organization, with offices in Vienna, Mexico City, and New York, was founded in 1995 by Robert Punkenhofer, who was joined by Haydée Rovirosa in 1997. Since then they have initiated—often with the support of guest curators—exclusive exhibitions by over 140 artists. Partnerships with renowned art institutions and the publication of catalogues are as much a part of their program as the public art projects themselves. In 2003, for instance, pursuing an idea by Art&Idea , Vito Acconci created the spectacular Mur Island for Graz. In 2005, Art&Idea not only organized the Austrian presentation at Expo 05 in Aichi, Japan, but also the first Vienna Art Week.
Containing an collage of contributions, including a retrospective by art critic Francisco Reyes Palma, statements from artists and curators, and documentation of the exhibitions and projects, this volume offers an overview of ten years of Art&Idea activities.
