Since its founding in 2003, the Austrian Sculpture Park located south of Graz has established itself as the center for contemporary Austrian sculpture in correspondence with international art movements. Nestled in a landscape designed by Dieter Kienast, sixty works by important artists of different generations—from Fritz Wotruba and Franz West to Erwin Wurm and Michael Kienzer—are made accessible to the public. This allows sculptures by Austrian artists to interact with works by internationally known sculptors, presenting visitors with exciting comparisons.
This publication documents all of the works in the Austrian Sculpture Park. They are described by reputable experts and presented in the outstanding photographs by Andrew Bush and Karin Apollonia Müller. Essays on sculpture in the public space and how our understanding of the term “sculpture” has evolved since 1900, as well as statements by international artists, provide the finishing touches to the book.
